Welcome to Monroe’s AROUND TOWN GALLERY! A history walk showcasing the the downtown area.
LAUNIUS MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Mr. and Mrs. Harry B. Launius Sr., whose son, Harry Launius Jr. was killed in World War II, built the Memorial Library to honor ALL Monroe High School students who participated in World War II.
The library was built in 1946…
And dedicated in 1947…
The Memorial Library served as both the high school library and the public library for periods of time…
When Monroe High School moved to Bryant Road in 1959, the Memorial Library became the public library and remained as such until the present library was built on spring street.
